I have come across many students who want to stay on a student visa until the student visa expiry date even when their study has finished. The student’s logic behind this is that they can utilise the time they have left on a student visa because they are guaranteed a subclass 485 visa in Australia anyways. Students delay the visa lodgement of subclass 485 till the very last day. I have seen students who lodge their subclass 485 just a day before.
6 Months Post Study Subclass 485 eligibility criteria
One of the eligibility criteria for Subclass 485 is that you must have completed an eligible course within the last 6 months of your Subclass 485 application date. This means that even if your student visa is valid for more than 6 months, you must lodge your Subcalss 485 within 6 months of course completion.
If you have completed your course more than 6 months ago, you will not be eligible to apply for Subclass 485 visa. If you are in this boat, there may be ways we can assist you.
