Overview

The Subclass 494 visa provides employers in regional Australia a pathway to sponsor overseas workers in skilled occupations. With validity for up to 5 years, it serves as a provisional visa and stepping stone to permanent residence through the Skilled Regional visa (Subclass 191).  

A Three-Part Process

A Subclass 494 visa requires:

1. Business sponsorship – The employer becomes an Approved Regional Sponsor and nominates the position.

2. Position nomination – The employer nominates the overseas worker for the vacant skilled position. 

3. Visa application – With approved sponsorship and nomination, the overseas worker applies for their Skilled Regional Provisional visa.
